Man Friday Challenge at Scrappin' Patch

My challenge  and some Queens Birthday fun  is on at Scrappin' Patch. Go check it out!!

Welcome to another Man Friday challenge - thats right no frills, flowers or bling to be found here.

As its Queens birthday this weekend and England is about to have a start to summer and we need to be warmed up a bit from this cold weather - my challenge to you is to have a man/boy layout that is all about summer. This could be summer activities or just have bright summery colours featured.

Here is my example with my oldest son when he was two.

Designers choice challenge at Scrappin' Patch

Well it is my turn to set the challenge at Scrappin Patchthis week and here is the challenge.

Welcome to the first Designers Choice Challenge. This week I am going to give the hoarders in you two choices for this challenge - you only have to do one of the options.

Option one: Is to do a layout and include ephemera on it.
Definition of ephemera: items designed to be useful or important for only a short time, esp. pamphlets, notices, tickets, etc.

Option two: Is to do a layout and include a drawing or note from your child/grandchild/godchild or any special child in your life

Go on and get hunting for those little tickets or artwork and enjoy doing a layout with them and upload in the gallery
here
by midnight June the 1st to be in to win a RAK from Scrappin' Patch.

Remember too that if you do this challenge and three others by the end of the month YOU could be IN THE SPOTLIGHT
(check here)

Here are my two examples using option two

In this one there are two drawings done by Christopher and there is so much detail in them.

This one includes a little note he wrote one day on his own accord (not pressured by his scrapbooking Mum) about his favourite things.

More sharing.......

Just a few more layouts to share

The new weekly challenge is up at The Sketchbook . Hannah has set up an awesome challenge to do a layout using at least two hand made embellishments. In my layout I have made the lollipop flowers and stamped butterflies on transparencies and decorated with Kindy glitz. I have also created my background using packaging ie a pizza box that scrapping supplies came in - I distressed it and added some paint.

P1120003 copy

I got my Paper pesto kit a couple of weeks ago and did this layout using the kit - a layout of Brendan and his paternal grandma - the first time I have done one with his grandma (she passed away when he was 4 and half) - he was her first grandchild and greatly loved and adored by her.

P1120004 copy

He is all grown up at eight and half in the next layout which is for Scrap the boys challenge this month. I love the poem that I found - though don't know who wrote it.

P1120040 copy

The next layout was one that I did for a contest that I was involved in but have withdrawn from due to design team commitments. The challenge was to use packaging on your layout. The majority of this layout is from a prima transparency package while the background is a supporting bit of cardboard from a cardstock pack.

P1120001 copy

and last but not least my favourite for today is a layout for Up2Scrap's monthly challenge - a layout that is not square.

and if you come back later there will be more to see as I am setting the challenge over at Scrappin' Patch

See ya later.......

A layout to share

Well when I bought this paper I had this photo in mind - I normally buy paper then fit the photo/s around it but Basic Grey Wassail just fitted this photo perfectly. I used an old music book for part of my mat and the bottom layer of the flowers.

Mothers Day and a new stage of parenthood

Well I had a lovely Mothers Day - thanks so much Andrew for letting it happen. I had a lovely breakfast in bed - egg, sausage, bacon, hashbrown, grilled tomato and mushroom and I had a sleep in until 8:30 when the kids came to give me my gifts.

first up was Christopher with a gift he chose all by himself - a little cat candle holder very cute and some very detailed drawings which I will put on a layout later
P1110837

Then Katie gave me this lovely scarf - it has a hood and the at the ends you can put your hands in. It is for me when I am scrapping in my space in the garage which gets a bit cold in winter.

P1110834

And Brendan had a choice between perfume and a Treasure box and he chose this as he says it will last longer.

P1110839

So now I have got to decide what to put in my treasure box. Thank you my precious children for your lovely gifts. I also had a lovely lunch and dinner which included Sticky date pudding one of my favourites made for me.

Today I went to get a uniform set for Katie - there was a notice in the school newsletter for a second hand set of three shirts, two culottes and a pair of tights in excellent condition for $50 so I managed to get that - excellent bargain as they are in excellent collection and if bought new would have been about $180. Add these to the polar fleeces I got for $10 each and she has her uniform. Yes my baby starts school soon and has her first school visit tomorrow. The stationery is bought and she is so ready to go and so am I ready for her to go though there is a part of me that has a knot in my tummy thinking about it - so a new stage in parenting begins in June- no more preschoolers........

Having a go at Digi Scrapping

Well I don't have photoshop but have an application on my Mac called seashore so with the freebies I have downloaded from eidou I have being having a go at digital scrapping.

My first attempt

rockstar-digitial-copy1

the next go

cutie-copy

and this one - which I like best

proud-dad-copy

It was fun doing these - though It is a bit tricky as once you put on one element and get to the next one I couldnt work out how to edit the previous one. Also doing any text on it was an issue. I definitely prefer tradtional scrapping nothing like getting full of glue and cutting paper:)

Scrap Tech Tuesday at Scrappin' Patch

I have been on a number of scrapbooking forums and a question I have often seen raised is how do you use a sketch or do a sketch challenge? So for this Scrap Tech Tuesday I thought I would show you an example of a sketch and then show you some layouts I did using it.

My sketch is a three portrait orientated photo one.

technique-sketch1
My first layout uses the sketch literally ie as is with just a little tweak of having the photos at an angle.

p1110812-copy

Another way to use the sketch is to rotate it and therefore have landscaped orientated photos like this example

p1110814-copy

With the sketch you can use more or less photos and with the following example I just used one large photo (it could even be larger then this)

p1110813-copy

Sketches are very much open to interpretation - you can also flip the layout ie have the journalling and embellishment on the opposite side and change the title over.

One of the best places on the web to find sketches is at Page Maps (http://www.pagemaps.com) and there are heaps more sites.

Now I would like to see your interpretation of my Sketch upload in the gallery here

http://scrappinpatch.co.nz/coppermine/t ... ?album=130

by the midnight the 12th of May and I will draw a name to receive a small RAK from me.

Happy scrapping.

A Scrapping weekend ahead ?

Well not for me but tomorrow I will put up the final Friday night challenge at The Sketchbook- its a surprise of sorts!! (the new challenges start up on Monday)

Then on Saturday something is afoot at Scrappin' Patch for National Scrapbooking Day and I am not giving out any clues ....

Talking about Scrappin' Patch I did this layout using the gorgeous Equinoxe paper range by Rose Moka and a bit of 7 gypsies flocked paper thrown in which came in a parcel yesterday - goodies I bought from the sale.

I bought a H20 pen and used that to do the distressing and I love prima crystals - I only used them for the first time at the retreat!!
